Draft template — it describes how the product actually works, including the two licences below, but it has not been reviewed by a lawyer. Get the licence wording drafted properly before you take real money.

1. What BeatsOnDeck is

BeatsOnDeck is a marketplace where producers sell instrumental tracks and artists buy them. BeatsOnDeck hosts the files, handles payment, and is not a party to the creative agreement between the two.

2. Accounts

You must provide accurate information and keep your credentials secure. An account is registered as either an artist or a producer. You are responsible for everything done through your account.

3. Sales and payment

Artists fund a balance and pay the listed price per beat, taken from that balance at purchase. BeatsOnDeck retains 15% of the price as a platform fee, deducted from the producer's payout, which is credited immediately on sale. Producers may withdraw an available balance at any time.

4. What a purchase gives you

A purchase gives the buyer a permanent right to download the file from their library, including after the producer delists the beat, plus a licence to use it. Every beat is sold under one of two licences, shown on the listing before purchase and recorded against the purchase itself:

  • Royalty-free — a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive right to record, release and monetise a song built on the beat, with no royalties owed to the producer. The producer may keep selling the same beat to other artists.
  • Exclusive — the same rights, and the beat is withdrawn from the marketplace at the point of sale and not sold again. The producer undertakes not to license it to anyone else.

Under both, the producer retains ownership of the underlying instrumental and the buyer may not resell or re-license the beat as a beat. A beat's licence type is fixed once it has sold, and an exclusive sale cannot be reversed or relisted by a producer or by staff.

5. Producer warranties

By uploading, a producer confirms they own or control the rights to the recording and everything in it, including any samples. Uploading material you do not have the right to sell is grounds for takedown and account closure.

6. Moderation and takedowns

BeatsOnDeck may remove any listing, with or without notice, in response to a rights complaint or a breach of these terms. A takedown stops new sales; buyers who already purchased keep their download.

7. Featured placement

Producers may pay to feature a beat at the top of Browse for a fixed period. Featured placement is advertising, is labelled as such, and implies no endorsement or quality assessment by BeatsOnDeck. Fees for featuring are not refundable once the placement starts.

8. Refunds

Because a beat is delivered in full the moment it is bought, sales are final except where a listing is found to infringe or misrepresent what was sold. Contact support in that case.

9. Termination

Either party may close an account at any time. BeatsOnDeck may suspend accounts that breach these terms. Balances owed at closure are paid out once any open matters are resolved.
